During these challenging times, we understand and appreciate the need for all community agencies to prepare responses in accordance with State and Federal government guidelines to the COVID-19 pandemic – particularly around events, sport and recreation, and gatherings larger than 10 people.
Importantly, we share your concerns about the social isolation caused by the response measures to the COVID-19 pandemic and the impact on the health and wellbeing of participants in Reclink’s sports and recreation activities – many of whom are some of the most vulnerable and disadvantaged people in our community.
Reclink will continue to deliver as many recreational opportunities as possible to reduce isolation and loneliness among people experiencing disadvantage, while ensuring that each activity meets current response guidelines to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Reclink programs that have been cancelled due to COVID-19 response measures include structured sports programs such as our Australian Rules Football, Soccer and Basketball leagues, as well as sport and recreations programs delivered in venues and locations listed by State and Federal governments required to cease operations during this time.
We, at Reclink Australia, have been working during the past few weeks to communicate as much as we can with participants, member agencies, and community partners about the diverse range of recreation activities which remain available and continue to be delivered across all our locations in accordance with social distancing guidelines and government directives.
We are inspired by the innovation and creativity of our friends in the performing arts and music sectors, who are sharing new and imaginative ways to create connectedness and reduce isolation through mediums such as podcasts and live performances.
Reclink is interested in your ideas and suggestions for how we can continue to work together while ensuring the health, safety, and wellbeing of participants, member agencies, staff and their respective families, friends of Reclink, and the wider community.
We encourage all those in the community, our member agencies, and friends of Reclink to support the most vulnerable during this time of disparity, hunger, inactivity and isolation that they are experiencing.
