The Aussie music industry is ready to rumble! The Reclink Community Cup is coming to Elsternwick Park for the 23rd annual footy clash on Sunday 26th June 2016. Once again The Rockdogs will face off against the Triple R Megahertz for the fame, the glory and some serious bragging rights while helping raise money for Reclink Australia.
This hugely popular charity football match, pitting musicians against community radio personalities, now attracts a staggering 10,000 people every year and raises more than $100,000 for Reclink Australia. More than a fierce game of footy, this is a family fun day out and a chance to get up close and personal with a swag of brilliant Australian musical celebrities.
For the game, the celebrities are divided into two teams, The Rockdogs (musicians), wearing black, red, white and yellow, and The Megahertz (Triple R 102.7FM & PBS 106.7FM personalities), who can be identified by their red and white guernseys. Fans are invited to 'gear up' in team colours to support their chosen team.
The Gates open at 11.45am with three pre-show acts to get the day started. Rhys Muldoon (of Playschool fame) & Kram (Spiderbait) have teamed up to create the'Rockingest kids' band possible,' called For The Kids. They will be followed by The Sugarcanes and Loose Tooth. Following the official opening ceremony with legendary Mondo Rock ad Daddy Cool frontman, Ross Wilson, the footy will kick off. Total Giovanni will be performing the half time show, followed by headlining act, Regurgitor at the end of the match.
You already know this is no ordinary match of footy, but look even closer. The umpire and commentators will also be music industry personalities and comedians, bringing their own form of humour and entertainment to the game.
Throughout the day, there will be heaps of activities for the kids as well as lots more live entertainment. Enjoy some grass roots kick-to-kick and find something to eat and drink from the onsite food vendors during match breaks.
The Reclink Community Cup supports a very good cause, assisting community members who find themselves isolated and vulnerable, such as those experiencing mental illness, people with a disability, the homeless, people tackling alcohol and other drug issues as well as social and economic hardship.
Tickets are on sale via Oztix and fans are urged to get in quick. Tickets are priced at $15 for Adults and Kids under 16 - $5. Reclinks CEO John Ballis said, "Every year this event gets bigger and bigger. I wouldn't say it's because of the level of football played on the day, either. The calibre of the bands in the line up, the community spirit and the entertainment on field are becoming legendary."
The Melbourne Reclink Community Cup is being played at Elsternwick Park, 64 Glenhuntly Road, Elsternwick on Sunday 26th June 2016, with gates opening at 11.45am.
