The Southern NT Indigenous Softball Championships is an important competition for women and their families involving five communities across the NPY region including Docker River, Yulara, Mutitijulu, Imanpa and Apatula.
Reclink NT has been supporting the women’s softball at Yulara since the commencement of the championships in 2014. This competition offers the only structured female focused sporting initiative for Anangu women and this competition provides a unique opportunity for women’s development fostering personal and professional development including physical, emotional and social health, wellbeing, employment and sporting pathways to other activities.
The second game of this 2015 season was held at Yulara as a part of the Tjungu Festival which was a great success as local and interstate performers came to support the event.
Yulara All Stars played Scared Hitless and got off to a shaky start but managed to dominate and eventually win the softball match with much support from the local crowd.
This game was then followed by the Tjungu Cup echoing Tjungu Festival’s theme of “meeting together” which drew in large crowds from the festival and brought players from the Anangu, Pitjantjatjara, Yankunytjatjara lands for an indigenous AFL match.
