Sydney’s Reclink Community Cup is returning to pit local media personalities up against local musos in a hard-fought charity game of Aussie Rules football, and newsreader/Australian bloody icon Lee Lin Chin is here to break it down for you.
This year, the Community Cup’s team of media personalities (The Sydney Sailors) will feature folks from the likes of triple j, 2SER, FBi, Triple M Sydney and ABC TV, while the team of musos (The Western Walers) will include the likes of DJ Albo, Sticky Fingers, Urthboy and Rob Mills.
In the week leading up to game day, a froth-load of free live music events are also going down with donations collected for Reclink Australia. The week kicks off with a special edition of Newtown Social Club’s Monday night institution Swerve Society, with local bands Maples, The Runaway Houses and The Vacationists.
Then on Friday August 12, players from the Walers and the Sailors AFL teams go head to head in a karaoke performance battle at Vic on the Park with Young Henry’s also donating a “Karma Keg” of Newtowner, and will give all proceeds from discounted $5 schooners on the night to Reclink Australia.
The 2016 Sydney Reclink Community Cup will be a family and pet-friendly event, with food stalls from Cantina Movil, Suzy Spoon’s Vegetarian Butcher, Craft Partners and Serendipity Ice Cream, as well as drinks from Young Henrys. After the football shenanigans, more fun will be going down at the cup’s official after-party at the nearby Vic On The Park Hotel.
