A group of Parliamentarians, media representatives, and local musicians went head-to-head in a friendly AFL9’s match at Parliament House Sports Ground on Thursday morning — proving that sport can unite even the most unlikely teammates.

Lacing up the boots and taking part in the match were Labor MP Peter Khalil (Wills), National Party MP Sam Birrell (Nicholls), and Liberal MP (Casey) who were joined by players from the Canberra Reclink Community Cup.

Following the tightly contested match, Reclink Australia CEO thanked the group for their support and highlighted the need to work together to address the crisis of loneliness in the community.

“Reclink exists to solve the problem of loneliness by connecting people through sport. Just like the camaraderie and connections that was on display in today’s match, this occurs in the 350 sessions weekly sessions that run across Australia. It’s in these sessions that we can work with people from a diverse set of backgrounds and circumstances to provide accessible sport and recreation activities to have a positive impact on their lives,” said Dave Wells, Reclink Australia CEO.

The Canberra Reclink Community Cup will be held at Alan Ray Oval in Ainslie on Sunday 14th September. All funds raised support Reclink’s mission to deliver sport and recreation programs that change lives nationwide.

Tickets are available from Oztix.
